Passionate Unilorites,

UPDATE ON THE SU LITERARY COMPETITION

This is to bring to the notice of the entire student populace the shortlist for the SU Literary Prize.

Kindly recall that entries bordering on the theme ‘Grief’ were called for earlier this year. Hundreds of entries were received from students across various departments in the University and from the large pool of brilliant submissions, 11 poems and 5 short stories have been selected for final consideration by the editorial board. The stories and poems that have been shortlisted show courage and an uncanny ability to confront hidden darkness.

Arranged in no particular order, the shortlisted stories and poems are as follows.

FICTION
THE ROT UNDERNEATH YOUR SKIN by Akanbi Shedrack Opeyemi
RAINDROPS, NIGHTFALL AND WHATEVER CAME AFTER by Mofe Phil Atie

The editorial board unfortunately could not select any nonfiction piece for consideration for this stage. The submissions received in this category did not meet up to the standards of the judging process.

The selected pieces will be featured in the Zango Anthology (an annual review of the Student Union) following a workshop to be organized by the SU Secretariat. Date and modalities for the workshop will be released soonest.

We heartily congratulate all selected writers.
