COURTESY VISIT TO KWARA POLICE COMMAND AND RESOLUTION ON THE HARASSMENT OF OUR COLLEAGUES
We acknowledged reports of unusual harassment of our colleagues by police officers and incidents of theft in the Tanke community axis. As a responsive Union, working tirelessly to ensure a conducive and student-worthy environment, we took proactive steps by visiting the Kwara Police Command on Thursday, 22nd August 2024.
The visit aimed at fostering collaborations with the police to ensure the continued safety and security of our colleagues in the state. We articulated the need to stop extortions and harassments of our colleagues to Kwara Police Command, and the following professional conducts of the police were reiterated:
- It is not permissible for police officers to check citizens’ phones by the road.
- No citizen should be arrested without clear offense.
In this light, checking students’ phones by the road, and forceful arrest without clear offense are unprofessional practices. We urge our dear colleagues to always be with their School ID Card.
We reassure you of our commitment to ensuring a peaceful, restful, and impactful environment.
