REVIEW OF TRANSPORTATION FARES
Following the recent increase in pricing of fuel, which has risen from ₦930 to between ₦1,200-₦1,500 after our last review, we regret to announce an unavoidable adjustment in transportation fares on the University roads as follows:
- PS - Tanke: ₦300 now ₦400
- PS to Challenge/Post Office (Bus): ₦500 now ₦600
- PS to Challenge/Post Office (Car): ₦600 now ₦700
This unavoidable adjustment which will be effective from Monday, 28th October, 2024, reflects the growing cost of operations and aims to maintain reliable transport services in the University Community while striking a fair balance between both parties and considering the current economic situation.
We understand the impact this may have on our colleagues, and in response, provisions have been made to engage with the State Government for potential solutions. We are currently working on securing more Marco-polo Buses as a more affordable and sustainable transportation option for our colleagues.
Our goal is to ease the financial burden on our colleagues while ensuring convenient and reliable transport services remain accessible.
We strongly enjoin our colleagues to bear with this development and not to exceed this agreed price when boarding buses on this route as we pledge to ensure fare reductions when the economic situation improves.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ON PAYMENT OF 2024/2025 SCHOOL CHARGES BY NELFUND
Smart Unilorites,
We are writing to notify our colleagues whose NELFund Application for the 2024/2025 has been ‘verified’ on the payment of their school charges by Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Please, be informed that the previous NELFund application for the 2023/24 Session has been updated to reflect the new academic year (2024/25 Session).
On this regard, kindly proceed to the school portal - https://portal.unilorin.edu.ng/ to confirm this payment, as we also urge Students with ‘pending’ or ’unverified’ NELFund status to exercise patience as their applications are being reviewed gradually.
We are aware that some students' portals reflect reduced charges, concerned students are advised not to make payment yet, while we interface with the University Administration to resolve this concern. We’ll provide further updates when available.
Furthermore, the Students’ Union is currently working together with the Student Affairs Unit to expedite the verification process before the registration deadline.
In a similar vein, We encourage our colleagues to take advantage of this newly introduced Federal Government’s Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support their education. We appreciate the transparency and prudence demonstrated by the President Tinubu-led administration, NELFund management, and University Administration in disbursing the loan.
We reiterate our dedication to prioritizing the welfare of all, with transparency and accountability.

Consequently, the process of mobilization for NYSC is ongoing and final clearance for the collection of Statement of Results/Certificate is to commence in preparation for Convocation Ceremonies.
However, We’ll like to provide you with vital information on the automated clearance.

Smart Unilorites,
Pursuant to our recent announcement on hostel balloting and allocation for the new academic session, we write to keep you abreast on the revised charges for University-owned hostels.
Adhering to the set rules of the University Administration on increments in housing fees on Campus; With the Private hostels on Campus having 12.5% increment on last session’s hostel charges, additional ₦28,000 and ₦10,000 for Utilities and Caution fees respectively. We’ve received notification of 10% increment on last session’s hostel charges for the University-owned hostels and additional ₦28,000 as Utilities fee.
Owing to this increment, bedspaces made available for ₦40,000 and ₦55,000 during last session will now be charged for ₦72,000 and ₦88,000 consequently. While our colleagues from the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences and Clinical Sciences will now pay a total sum of ₦108,664 (Utilities fee inclusive) for 12 months, contrary to 9 months charges for our colleagues at the Permanent Site.
As a responsible Union, considering the inflated economy of the country and ensuring education is made affordable for our colleagues, we’ve initiated meetings with the University Administration to represent the interests of all Smart Unilorites and we are hopeful that our negotiations will yield reduction in these charges.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ON UNIVERSITY-OWNED HOSTEL BALLOTING AND ALLOCATION
Smart Unilorites,
In light of the commencement of 2024/2025 Academic Session, we're writing to notify you that University-owned hostels will be available for balloting and allocation during the first week of resumption.
Regrettably, our interactions with the Student Affairs Unit hinted reduction in number of bedspaces in two major hostels due to refurbishment or major renovation works in these hostels to ensure provision of habitable and more befitting hostels for our colleagues.
This unavoidable facelift would raise the standard of the hostels if completed. While arrangement is ongoing with the Student Affairs Unit to secure alternative accommodation for sizeable number of male and female that this renovation affected.
Traditionally, balloting and allocation of bedspaces mode remains unchanged and the new commencement date will be announced soon.
Furthermore, kindly be informed that payment of School Charges is a crucial prerequisite for hostel balloting and allocation.
We remain resolute in our commitment to putting the interests and wellbeing of every Smart Unilorites first.
