IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON TRANSPORTATION ISSUES

As a responsible organization, working round the clock to ease the stress of students and also, making conscious efforts towards maximizing the transportation apparatus on campus, it's paramount that we sustain the existing system.

However, it is quite absurd and ridiculous, that a number of students are hellbent on ruining the gains and frustrating the efforts of the union by promoting lawlessness and gross misconduct, consciously or otherwise. Thereby, initiating unrecognised parks and stopping korope buses to convey them at unauthorized places.

It is pertinent to note that all buses and taxis are to ONLY convey Students at the park, approved and authorized by the University Management. Hence, we crave the indulgence of all Unilorites that contrary to popular perception, the land space at the Faculty of Education is a bus stop and NOT the (subsidiary) park. Henceforth, we shall no longer condone the usage of the bus stop as a park. All students (irrespective of the faculty) are to converge at the University Central Park in strict orderliness and compliance.

Also, we are not unaware of the unethical acts peculiar to some Korope drivers -extorting students, by claiming to convey them to post office or challenge and then charge them N150. Be informed that Korope is only meant to shuttle the school park and terminus. On no occasion should you pay N150 to any Korope driver.

As a People-Focused administration, we are keenly vested in the welfare of our members and we do not take your patience for granted.

REVIEW OF KOROPE DRIVERS' OPERATION ON CAMPUS

As a responsive Union, enthusiastic about the welfare of her members, the leadership of the union and the head of the campus korope drivers held an intensive meeting in order to discuss salient issues on the services being rendered to students.

We're particularly excited about informing our members that there would be an influx of korope buses on-campus. These new buses will complement the services of existing ones and also, reduce the horrific congestion at the park.

However, as a result of the third wave of the Corona Virus pandemic, the sitting arrangement and price remains 3-3-2 and 80 Naira, respectively. The resurgence of the pandemic, to a very large extent, has inhibited negotiations and adversely affected a reduction in price.

Also, we are not unaware of and we understand the difficulties the Agric students face in accessing the farm. Hence, we have concluded that the drivers transport them to the farm with compliance to the approved sitting arrangement and price, that is, 3-3-2 and 80 Naira respectively. By the same token and arrangement, students of Veterinary medicine will also be conveyed directly to their faculty.

Students are hereby advised to adhere to new regulations and also, report perceived misconduct of korope drivers to the Union, with an appropriate and a substantial evidence.

Conclusively, we resolved for an extension in the working hours of korope drivers. Therefore, they would, henceforth, be operative from the hours of 6:00AM till 10:30PM or so soon thereafter.

Be assured that as a People Focused Administration, we are working round the clock to ensure students enjoy premium transportation with ease on campus.

STUDENTS' UNION TRADE FAIR PRICE REVIEW

We have received complaints and constructive criticism from concerned Unilorites, business owners and entrepreneurs as regards the hike in price of getting a stand at the upcoming Students' Union Trade Fair tagged "KATAKARA '21".

Specifically, the increment was caused by the state of the nation's economy which has adverse effects on price of items required as far as logistics for SU Trade Fair is concerned. Sequel to this, the intention behind the increment to N10000 was not to make things difficult for business owners, rather, it is to ensure the organizers meet the financial obligations of planning a successful Trade Fair.

Nevertheless, we have listened to the agitations and constructive criticism of our dear colleagues. And in that regard, we hereby announce the new fees for business owners and student entrepreneurs to get a stand at the upcoming SU Trade Fair. The new fees are below:

Students - N7000
Non-Students - N12000

Be rest assured that we remain committed to ensure that the aim of the Trade Fair which is to encourage student entrepreneurs and also provide them the platform to thrive is not trampled.
