STUDENTS' WELFARISM: UNION OFFICIALS ENGAGE COMMUNITY HEADS AND TRANSPORT WORKERS

As part of our resolve to cater for the all round welfarism of students both on and off-campus, the leadership of the Union led by Faji Tobiloba held an important and engaging meeting with the community heads and the leaders of transport workers of the Oke-Odo community.

At the meeting, important issues that are centered on the welfarism of students were deliberated upon. The issues include but not limited to price review of transport fares, reckless driving of both bike and Keke-Napep drivers, security concerns.

The meeting which also had in attendance Magaji of Jalala was held at Jalala Primary school. After an exhaustive and positive-yielding meeting, the following resolutions were made:

1. Necessary steps will be taken to curb any form of harassment or theft on students.

2. Drivers and riders have been cautioned on over-speeding.

3. In terms of transport fares, the following prices were agreed upon:

UPDATE: HOSTEL ALLOCATION FOR FRESH STUDENTS

The allocation of school hostel for freshers only as announced yesterday will commence today.

As initially scheduled, the allocation will take place today being 15th of December, 2022, on the University portal from 12pm as announced by the Student Affairs Unit.

Fresh students who have completed the payment of their school fees are expected to participate in the online balloting process for the available bed spaces at the stipulated date and time on the University portal.

Please be reminded that reservation/booking shall be for a period of 72hours only during which payment MUST be made.

Students are also enjoined to note that bed spaces are not transferrable or sellable.

JUSTICE SERVED!

The Faji-led Administration uses this medium to inform all Unilorites of the latest development with regards to the court judgement of the murder case of Late Miss Blessing Olajide, a student from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin who was gruesomely raped to death on June 10th, 2021.

In the final court hearing held yesterday, the suspects were pronounced guilty and sentenced to death by hanging. This judgement without any iota of doubt, shows the dispensation of justice as it should be upholded by the Judicial arm of the government.

In lieu of this, on behalf of all Modern Unilorites, we'll like to thank the state government for pursuing the case to the letter. This judgement has strengthened our belief in the rule of law and also that no crime must go unpunished.

While we beseech our colleagues to take safety and precautionary measures at this crucial time, It is also necessary to reiterate to all Modern Unilorites that the Development-Oriented Administration is focused on the all round welfarism of every students and will work hand in hand with necessary units to achieve this.

HOSTEL ALLOCATION FOR COHS STUDENTS

The Development-Oriented Administration would like to inform all students of the College of Health Sciences(COHS) that the allocation of hostels will be conducted after the release of the good-standing lists. This is a resolution reached in conjunction with the school management in a consultative discussion.

The delegation of the Union which was led by the Vice President of the College of Health Sciences, Adeolu Arungbemi and the Welfare Secretary of the College of Health Sciences, Emmanuel Sunday Babatunde also discussed salient issues centered on the welfarism of students of the College of Health Sciences(COHS).

Students must however note that access to hostel balloting will only be opened to students whose names are on the good-standing lists and must have paid their school fees.

The date for the opening of the hostel allocation will be announced in due time.

*HOSTEL ALLOCATION FOR FRESH STUDENTS*

Modern Unilorites,

The Leadership of the Union led by Faji Tobiloba in its conscious, unrelenting and burning desire to alleviate the transportation issue faced by Unilorites is delighted to announce an historic resolution.

As part of ongoing efforts and after due consultations with the school management, it has been agreed that hostel allocation should be made available for the newly admitted students(freshers).

It is without doubt that the early access to hostel allocation for freshers will reduce the congestion of students residing off-campus and at the same time ease transportation issues faced by students.

The date for the opening of the hostel allocation will be announced in due time.

Freshers are however enjoined to note the following steps in the hostel allocation process.

INFORMATION ON HOSTEL ALLOCATION FOR FRESH STUDENTS

Stage 1: Students are to check their portals for accommodation booking/reservation.

Stage 2: Reservation/booking shall be for a period of 72hours only during which payment MUST be made.

Stage 3: Students are to print
out the Hostel Receipts and Hostel Application Forms which will serve as Hostel Pass.

Stage 4: Students are to get their Hostel Application Forms endorsed at the Student Affairs Unit.

Stage 5: Students are to proceed to their allocated Hall of Residence for further documentation and occupancy.

Stage 6: STUDENTS MUST NOT TRANSFER OR SELL THEIR BEDSPACES to any person. Flouting of this order will result in a severe penalty by the Student Disciplinary Committee(SDC).

Returning students are enjoined to exercise patience as the hostel allocation process for them will be made available after the Senate sitting due to hold on the 19th of December, 2022.

Finally, be ensured that your well-being as students remain our utmost concern as a Development-Oriented Administration.

*SU OFFICIALS PAID AN ASSESSMENT VISIT TO THE ONGOING CONSTRUCTION OF THE TIPPER GARAGE FLYOVER BRIDGE*

The Leadership of the Union, yesterday, paid an assessment visit to the ongoing construction of the Tipper Garage Flyover Bridge. The delegation which was led by Comrade Faji Tobiloba appreciated the state government for the initiation of the infrastructural project as its usage when completed will be pivotal in the movement of students and staffs alike.

Also during the meeting, Comrade Faji informed the Project Managers in persons of Engineer Michael Akinpelu and Engineer Sulaimon Monsur of the due resumption of students on campus. This was necessary in order to intimate the government of the influx of students and how to facilitate a better commuting of students and staffs to and fro campus considering the size of the student populace. Other issues raised were the quick repair of alternative routes and the reconnection of Korope Buses to the school Terminus which has since been unaccessible.

One of the Project Manager, Engineer Michael Akinpelu pledged to look into the issues raised and work on them. He also assured the Union of a temporary opening of the Tipper Garage road at rush hours of the day in order to ease traffic.

On the project completion, he assured the Union of a speedy completion in order to ensure an early usage of the infrastructural project.

Other members of the delegation are Comrade Arowolo Ayodeji, Comrade Ologundudu Joseph and Comrade Abdullahi Abiodun.

*"PRIORITIZE OUR WELFARE", FAJI STATES THE POSITION OF THE UNION TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR, PROFESSOR WAHAB OLASUPO EGBEWOLE (SAN)*

The Leadership of the Union led by Faji Tobiloba, yesterday, paid a courtesy visit on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN).

The Executives, Senate Council Principal Officers, the Dean, Student Affairs Unit and other Officers of the Unit were warmly received by the Vice Chancellor, who also congratulated the Development-Oriented Administration on the occasion of the just concluded, successful inauguration of the Executives.

The Union President, Comrade Faji on behalf of all Modern Unilorites congratulated the Vice Chancellor on his formal assumption of office while assuring him of the Union's cooperation and support.

Comrade Faji also raised some critical issues with the Vice Chancellor. These included hostel accommodation, security, health care services and transportation. Comrade Faji also reiterated the effects of these issues on the academic excellence of all Modern Unilorites.

Speaking on transportation, Faji lamented on the poor transportation system which has been in existence long before now and how it affects the academics of students. With respect to hostel accommodation, Faji explained the need to have more hostels on campuses in order to accommodate more students. This is also necessary in order to reduce the population of students off-campus and reduce security challenges faced by the students that are residing off-campus. Furthermore, the issue of health care services was discussed and the major concern was the provision of more health personnels which will enhance better health care delivery.

The Vice Chancellor in his remarks acknowledged these issues and its effects on students. He explained that the school management hitherto had already identified these issues. He also hinted on some interventions/measures that are already being put in place to address these concerns. He also assurred the Union of the support of his administration.

Modern Unilorites, be rest assured that the Development-Oriented Administration will work hand in hand with the school management to ensure that these issues are well looked into. We remain steadfast in our commitment to be development-oriented.

The visit was aimed at a critical examination of the CBT centres facilities and immediate initiation of necessary repairs.

As a Development-Oriented Union that we are, we understand that the welfarism of students during examination period is very important and as such, it is necessary to put in place measures that would uphold such welfarism.

COMMISSIONING OF THE COHS-MAIN CAMPUS LINK ROAD

Modern Unilorites,

The Leadership of the Union was present today at the official handing over ceremony of the completed projects by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing under the Intervention Programme on Internal roads of Federal Tertiary Institutions.

The commissioning of the project which is the just completed rehabilitation of internal roads at the University of Ilorin which links to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital(UITH) was graced by several dignitaries including the Honorable Minister for Works, the Vice Chancellor, University Officials, Traditional rulers and other invited guests.

In his welcome address, The Vice Chancellor thanked the Federal government for the speedy completion of the project which has proven to be pivotal to the movement of staffs and students between the main campus and the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital through the College of Health Sciences. The Vice Chancellor also indulged the Federal government for further assistance in the rehabilitation of more road networks in the University of Ilorin.

Speaking also on the commissioning, the Student Union President, Faji Tobiloba discussed the state of the roads prior to its rehabilitation and the problems caused by its bad state including limited mobility to Oke-Oyi from main campus and lack of health access on main campus. He however commended the Federal Government for the improved repair and rehabilitation of the road and reiterated the Vice Chancellor plea for the rehabilitation of more road networks in the University of Ilorin.

It is indeed a landmark and golden privilege for us. It is also important that we thank you all for gracing the inauguration ceremony. Your presence shows solidarity and support for us and we duly appreciate it.

Modern Unilorites, It is with utmost humility and appreciation that we speak to you today on our formal assumption of office. We would like to thank all of you today for putting your trust in us to paddle the canoe of affairs of our great union for the next academic session. We are humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust put in us and careful of our true values as a union.

At this juncture, we would like to reiterate our commitment to the fulfillment of our electoral promises. We duly understand that failure is not a choice neither an option.

We assure all Unilorites that The Development-Oriented Administration is resolved to ensure that our yearnings are prioritized, our potentials maximized, our genuine intents amplified and integral developments on campus guaranteed.
