UPDATE ON THE GLO CUSTOM DATA PLAN FOR UNILORIN STUDENTS
In line with the mandate of keeping smooth academic activities even as the University goes virtual, we wish to bring to the attention of all students that the following arrangements are in place to ease the transition to the new normal.
The university hotspots have been increased with additional 39 new spots and bandwidth strengthened. Also, a centre with 200 computers under the watch of COMSIT is to begin operations to assist students of all categories who, for one reason or the other, may not be online at the time of the lecture to download from the repository within 48 -72hrs of the lecture.
On the other hand, since Universities are to thread cautiously on crowd management, the opening of hostels will be delayed till 18th of January, 2021 when physical activities are expected to commence on campus as announced by FGN. The implications is that pending when students are eventually allowed to resume on campus, virtual learning and teaching will continue and students may be in need of data.
Consequently, arrangement has been made between Student Union and Globacom network under the watch of Student Affairs to privately assist students in getting personal data within the first week of virtual classes pending resumption on campus at discounted rate:

It is now obvious that we have found ourselves in a country that wishes to develop without first prioritizing the education of her youths nor investing tangibly in their future. What is not so obvious is the reason the Buhari-Led Federal Government has decided to gamble with the future of the country by setting a new record for the longest ASUU strike ever; 8 months and still counting.
From our thoughts, the FG and ASUU seem to be deriving a secret pleasure from their unending 'indoor' and attention-seeking 'romance' meetings. This 'romance' must STOP!
The leadership of the University of Ilorin Student Union, in solidarity with other higher institution leaders across the country, is taking brave steps to reclaim the future of this country from these seemingly unbothered leaders of our country. We have engaged in series of productive consultations with other Union leaders and our next step is the Joint Press Conference to issue an ultimatum to the Federal Government of Nigeria before we take drastic actions that will shake the roots of this country!

This is to inform our better by far students that after series of considerations, we have decided to commence the One month Free Self Skill Acquisition training virtually, while the final phase of each skill training will be completed at the Student Union vocational centre upon resumption.
Please recollect that the registration for this training, which is only one thousand naira, has been done before the emergence of the Corona Virus. However, in order to give more students the golden opportunity to partake and benefit from this training, we have decided reopen registration for the program. We join all other patriotic citizens of this country to celebrate another milestone in our struggle as a country to attain justice through unity. Today, June 12, 2019, marks another year that the Giant of Africa is holding on to the hopes and promises of democracy. However, true democracy can only be enjoyed in a country with educated and skilled youths, a country where there is a quality educational system that promotes the training and empowerment of her youths within a controlled and fixed period of time. Is Nigeria still that country?
The unending and repeatedly looping cycles of the ASUU and the FG disagreements have made a 'Jumong' out of this country's educational system and has forced students, who are supposed to be getting ready to build the country, into viewers of the tragic seasonal movies been acted by the Federal Government and ASUU. The actions and inactions of these parties that are supposed to be working hand in hand to ensure that the educational sector of the country becomes a pride of the continent is putting the future of this country at stake, and WE CAN NO LONGER FOLD OUR HANDS AND WATCH THESE PEOPLE THAT BENEFITED FROM A WELL-STRUCTURED SCHOOL SYSTEM TO PLUNGE THE FUTURE OF THE COUNTRY INTO THE MUD!

- HOSTEL SECURITY UPDATES: BUGLARY ACTIVITIES
The Union is aware of the security issues that has been springing up in off-campus residential areas, particularly the robbery and bugling of hostels, and efforts have been made to call the attention of security agencies in Kwara State to the matter.
Fabulous hostel, Cute hostel, Mercy Villa hostel, Caveland hostel, and some other hostels at at oko-oba are some of the hostels the Union officials have visited due to burglary activities. The Nigerian Police Force has promised to increase their surveillance and activities in and around students residential areas to ensure the safety of their properties during and after the COVID19 lockdown.
Also, another way of combating against robbery and bugling of students properties is cooperation with the Landlords and real estate agents on the personal surveillance of their houses. We hereby call on all students to ensure that they contact their house agents and landlords to discuss the safety of their properties in their hostels during this COVID19 pandemic.

The University of Ilorin Student Union is using this medium to inform the students populace that the official Twitter account of the union, @SU_Unilorin, has been suspended by the administrators of Twitter due to reasons yet to be known.
In order to bridge the communication gap between the Union and her members, and to continue providing a trusted medium of getting, vetting, and confirming important information from the Student Union, another official twitter account (@UilStudentUnion) has been created. How did the infection start
The COVID-19 is a novel disease which started in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. It has spread to over 64 countries of the world including a case seen in Nigeria so far.
What causes it
It is a new strain of the virus that has not been previously identified in humans. It is a disease transmissible from animals to man. Bats are thought to be the reservoir of infection.
How is it transmitted?
From what is known so far, it may be spread through droplets and formites from a contaminated objects or surfaces. The droplets can be from sneezing and coughing.
How long does it take to show signs of the infection?
Onset of symptoms are from 2 to 14 days of being infected.
What do you observe if you have the infection?
Most cases are mild
fever, cough, breathing difficulties and history of contact with patient with the disease or travel to locality with active transmission or visit treatment facility for the disease.
How to prevent the disease
• Wash your hands frequently with soap under running water or use alcohol-based sanitizer if water is not available.
• Cover your mouth and nose properly with a tissue paper when sneezing and/or coughing. Dispose of the tissue properly immediately after use. You may also cough into your elbow if a tissue is not available.
• Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing
• Healthcare workers are always advised to observe standard infection prevention and control measures when attending to patients and take a travel history.
What to do if you see the signs of COVID-19
o Observe self-isolation immediately by staying indoors and avoiding contact with people

The Student Union Writing Contest is a modification of the UNILORIN Writing Championship which started last session.
Writings to explore Grief are being called for. We understand that grief is human nature and it comes to each individual in various forms. We would like to look at grief through immigration, homophobia, xenophobia, bereavement, natural disasters, insurgency, epidemics, etc.
This session, the genres would be expanded to include playlets, and journalistic pieces. This would be in addition to others — fiction, nonfiction, essay and poetry.
For clarity, the following would be accepted: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, playlet, essay/journalistic pieces.
Writers are allowed to exercise their imaginative freedom in the production of their works. They are not restricted to particular guidelines and thus, anyone writing for the contest is allowed to produce their writing in the way they want.
Kindly note that the best of the works received will be published in Zango, an annual anthology of the Student Union.
Submission Guidelines:
— General Guideline.
* All submissions must be the original work of the author.
* Entries should be previously unpublished and if any entry has been published, it should be mentioned in the submission statement. Already published work will not be considered for the writing prize but could be considered, at the discretion of the editors, for the anthology.
* All entries must be typed and submitted in MS Word format.
* Works that promote or incite racism, hate, intolerance, sexism, violence, etc. shall be automatically disqualified.
* Each entry must be titled.
* Subject line of the mail must indicate the genre you are submitting for and your name e.g POETRY, SALAUDEEN HAWAH
* All submissions must be made before 31st March.

* An entrant is eligible to submit to only one genre.

As the 100l and 200l students of the prestigious University of Ilorin begin their first semester examination today, we wish them success and excellence at the end of the whole exercise. May the good great God grant them all that's needed to ace the examination and come out in flying colors.
Esteemed Unilorites, we implore all students writing examinations to be at the exam venue at least 30 minutes before the commencement of their examination according to the University examination regulations. Also, students writing CBT exams should ensure that they confirm the time for their courses and by all means ensure they get to the CBT Center on time in order not to miss their scheduled time, as the new CBT exam arrangement is fast, seamless, and efficient.
