Passionate Unilorites,
UPDATE ON THE GLO CUSTOM DATA
We sincerely apologize to everyone who applied for the second batch of the Glo Unilorin Custom Data plan that was publicized by the Union for the long delay in the distribution of the data. We appreciate them for trusting the Union and embracing the idea.
The delay in the whole process is partly due to the first-time nature of the idea, which we have been trying to perfect well and possibly apply in the continuous availability of the custom data plan. The chief reason for the delay is because a lot of students requested for bulk data during our survey but they failed to pay up as requested, which is why there's a deficit in the minimum data requested from Glo.
As it stands now, we need about 200GB to reach the threshold and we are hereby calling on Glo subscribers on campus to purchase the remaining data and help us distribute for this batch as soon as possible.
Interested students can visit https://sugilorin.remitbase.co to purchase the data at the following rates:
0 - 10GB @ #263.33 per GB
11 - 20GB @ #250 per GB
21 - 30GB @ #230 per GB
31 - above @ #200 per GB
Validity= 30days

MATTERS ARISING: SECURITY AND LIGHT ON CAMPUS
Security
The leadership of the Student Union is taking necessary steps to combat all security issues on campus and ensure the wellbeing of students with all our capacity. We have tabled the issues that have been brought to us to the management and demanded that capable security officials be placed at strategic places on campus and instructed to patrol round the campus at night. We have also requested that the school be lightened up and more shady areas be illuminated.
We beseech students to avoid walking alone or in isolation on campus at night, and also avoid dark routes and places at night. We also urge students to ensure they carry a means of identification (ID Card) with them at all times, as any unidentifiable individual would be arrested and punished accordingly.
Kindly report any unusual activities or suspicious individuals to:

ELECTRICAL POWER
We apologize for the unstable power supply in the past couple of weeks and we appeal to students residing on campus to be patient with us, the outage is due to faults in transmission from the Distribution Company and is out of the control of the University. However, as a fast alternative, the university generator is under repair and installation and shall be activated as a power backup on campus as soon as it is completed.

UPDATE ON HAPPENINGS ON CAMPUS
In the light of the recent power outage and water scarcity that hit our campus some days ago, the leadership of the Student Union met with the school management to register our displeasures and show our dissatisfaction over the state of things on campus, and to also call for immediate actions to restore the social amenities back on campus.
As promised to us at the meeting, electricity was restored on campus yesterday and all electrical faults that played part in the blackout have been rectified. Also, the school management made it known to us that the unit in charge of water supply on campus have been working around the clock to mitigate the damages and re-channel water back to the various outlets on campus and that indeed, water will be available in school today.
The campus-wide Internet availability was also one of the key item on the agenda for the meeting. Even though it is the news of a complete installation at all approved locations that would be most appealing to us, we are glad that installations are almost complete at the CBT Sit-out, the University Stadium, and also the Student Affairs Unit area, while work is work is going on at other locations on campus.
The power outage and water scarcity were results of the heavy rainfall that wrecked havoc at almost every corner in Kwara State. We apologize to all students for the inconvenience they have gone through and we also appreciate you for your calmness, patience, and perseverance during this period.

MATTERS ARISING: POWER OUTAGE ON CAMPUS
The recent frequent power outage within the school premises is due to a fault in a major power transmitting equipment within the central electricity plant of the university.
In collaboration with the IBEDC, the department of works is currently working on detecting and solving the technical issue. We hereby plead with students to be a little patient as we understand these are trying times and a period when power supply is needed most.
We have also been notified that light is been restored in some affected areas in Ilorin already and we are positive that the IBEDC would hasten up the rectification work in Tanke axis and restore power here too.
We hope and pray that the efforts of the authorities yield a positive result and electricity is restored soon.

MATTERS ARISING: MEETING WITH LANDLORDS OF OFF-CAMPUS HOSTELS
The University management, together with representatives of the Student Union, met with the owners of off-campus hostels in the University host communities with the sole agenda of reinforcing the smooth alliance between the University and the owners in preparation for the return of students to town.
At the meeting, the representative of the Universities appealed to the association of house owners on three key issues that affect the welfare of the students:
1. No quit notice or illegal locking of hostels
Due to the reports that have been received of some hostels serving students a quit notice and denying them access to their rooms, we appealed to the Landlords to be understanding, considerate, and patient with students who were unavoidably forced to stay at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. 2-Months Payment Grace Period
We also appealed to the Landlords to grant students who decide to remain in their hostels upon resumption the grace of 60 days to clear their outstanding house rents. However, it was agreed at the meeting that students who decide to move out to another hostel must clear out their outstanding house rents before moving out.
3. 10% giveaway as palliative from outstanding bills
Another appeal was made to the Landlords to offer financial support to students in the form of COVID palliatives. It is understandable that these hostels are the source of income for these owners too, however, the long break that kept students out of their hostels was nobody's fault and both parties involved must be understanding to find a balance. We appealed to the Landlords to offer a 10%-off to students as a show of empathy and support.
While reacting to the requests of the University, the leadership of the Landlords association informed the University of their own plans, which already included some of the requests of the University, and that some owners are already implementing these policies in their hostels. However, the leadership of the association concluded on discussing the appeals of the University with other members and communicate their resolutions to the University.
We urge students to be peace-loving and law abiding when dealing with matters related to hostels and house rents. The University and the Student Union will continue to work and ensure that the welfare of students is not endangered.
While we await the resolutions of the Landlords, it is our hope that all the discussions at the meeting materializes in no time. We remain committed to our mission to rebrand the value system by always protecting the interests of our students.
