UNIVERSITY OF ÌLỌRIN DEBATE CLUB EMERGES ZONAL CHAMPION AT MAIDEN AfCFTA AFRICA YOUTH TRADE CHALLENGE 2023
The University of Ilorin Debate Community has once again proven its excellence by emerging as the Zonal Champion at the inaugural Africa Youth Trade Debate Challenge (AYTDC) organized by the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) secretariat in collaboration with Speech Forces. The event aimed to engage young people in Africa about the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and raise awareness of the role African youth can play in achieving the goals and benefiting from the AfCFTA.
The participating institutions from across the continent were divided into two zones: English and French. Each zone had eight regions, represented by the top university from each region. The University of Ilorin Debate Community (UILDC) proudly represented Nigeria in this prestigious competition. The preliminary stages were held virtually, and UILDC advanced to the Zonal finals after defeating Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), representing Ghana, in the knockout stage held on Saturday, June 10th, 2023. Subsequently, the team faced Stratmore University of Kenya in the Zonal finals on Saturday, June 24th, and emerged as the victors.
As a result of their remarkable achievement, the University of Ilorin Debate Community has earned an all-expenses-paid trip sponsored by the AfCFTA secretariat to participate in the Grand Finals in Lusaka, Zambia, scheduled from July 19th to 21st. The Grand Finals will determine the continental winners in both the English and French streams.
On behalf of Unilorites, the Students' Union would like to acknowledge and express gratitude to the following team members for their outstanding contributions:
1. Adebara Tobiloba: Faculty of Life Sciences.
2. Ayodele Samuel: Faculty of Engineering and Technology.
3. Olafisoye Tolulope: Faculty of Law.
4. Owolabi Victor: Faculty of Education.

This is to inform students of the Better-By-Far Varsity of the PAADC (Professor Ayodele Awojobi Design Competition). The PAADC (Professor Ayodele Awojobi Design Competition) was created in 2017 and it aims to foster innovation among undergraduates in the Nigerian varsity scene and encourage the development of indigenous solutions to address local challenges through science and technology.
Over the years, PAADC has been instrumental in incubating 12 successful startups, and is still committed to expanding impact even further. It's vision is to empower young minds and equip them with the necessary resources to turn their ideas into reality.
PAADC provides a dynamic platform for undergraduates to showcase their ideas that offer innovative solutions to everyday challenges, making life easier for Nigerians. Whether it's an agriculture or technology innovation, any creative idea that addresses societal problems is welcome in PAADC.
Participants in PAADC will have the opportunity to compete for cash prizes, valuable internship positions, access to mentorship programs, and the potential for their ideas to be funded and transformed into viable ventures. Important Announcement: Update on Transport Fare for Students
The Students' Union is hereby notifying all students of a recent development regarding the school transport fare. Due to the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government, the price of fuel has experienced a significant increase, impacting various sectors, including transportation. As a result, we regret to inform you that the school transport fare has been adjusted to the below operations
1. Korope: #200 With a 4-4-2 sitting arrangement
2.Keke Napep: #80 (within PS)
3. Bus: #300 with a 4-4-4-2 Sitting arrangement(PS to Challenge)
4. Car: #350 with a 3-4-2 Sitting Arrangement(PS to Challenge)
5. Bus from PS to Terminus #150 while from Terminus to PS #200 with a 4-4-4-2 sitting arrangement
We understand that this adjustment may cause inconvenience to students, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. However, this decision has been made in response to the prevailing economic situation and the skyrocketing cost of fuel. It is essential for us to adapt and find a balance between providing transportation services and maintaining affordability for our students.
