ASUU STRIKE - OUR POSITION

The Academic Staff Universities Union has earlier embarked on a four week warning strike to ensure that their demands are met by the federal Government. The demands include; the implementation of the 2009 agreement, revitalization of the University system, payment of earned allowances, change in payment methods from IPPIS to UTAS among others.

However, as the warning strike winds off, the federal government has not exhibited the traits of meeting the demands.

This is not only bad for the lecturers but terrible for the University system. As a student body, we are poised towards a better educational system and stand completely with ASUU on this sojourn.

It is highly imperative for the Federal Government to note that quality education is the bedrock of every Nation's development, and as such it will be very unwise to poorly fund the system or neglect adequate welfarism of our teachers.

Alongside other stakeholders, we call on the federal government to meet the demands of the Universities' lecturers so that they can resume to classes.

If they fail to do that, we will embark on a constructive means of ensuring compliance and adherence to the 2009 agreement among other demands. While we do this, we urge all Unilorites and every Nigerian student to stand up as we join forces together to fight for our right - quality education.

COHS TRANSPORTATION

We are not oblivious of the increase in transport fare of Keke from PS to College which was increased from N100 to N150 and from old college to new college which was increased from N50 to N100 as a result of fuel scarcity.

However, we frown at this development as the increment is way too much than what we can afford as students at this time. Students of COHS should hereby note that we are already in talks with the leadership of the Keke riders in order to have a win-win situation on both sides.

Also, to be worthy of note is that the Students' Union as a body of all students on campus reserves the right to negotiate with riders and transporters when need arises.

UPDATE ON "CBT MENACE"

In the last 48 hours, the leadership of the Union have consistently interacted with the CBT centre management to inquire on the cause of disagreement that almost caused friction between our dear education students and an official of the CBT centre.

We expressed our dissatisfaction in the way our colleagues were treated and also posited that such should not reoccur anymore.

Our position is that respect is reciprocal as our dear students should be respected as much as our colleagues respect the officials.

Therefore, we urge our colleagues to conduct themselves in their best manner at the CBT centre as we hope that such occurrence does not surface again.
